Tomorrow, visit Jen at - http://jenhayley.com/blog/ , and since I won't be blogging on Wednesday, I'll let you know now that on thursday you check in with Denise at http://www.denisejaden.com/Blog.html
A while back I read Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side, by Beth Fantaskey (great last name, btw!)
It was a fun read, I enjoyed it for the most part, though I don't think it's possible to make drinking blood by the cupful, sexy. Sorry, that's just my opinion.
Anyhoo, this post isn't meant to be a review. Like I said, I enjoyed the book, and I found it particularly amusing because the mysterious love interest is from Transylvania in Romania. Of course, he's vampire royalty. Where else would he be from?
I may have mentioned along the way, that my husband and I have been involved with humanitarian/missionary work in Romania since 1997, and so, I've had the opportunity and privilege to travel to Romania several times. I've been to DRACULA'S CASTLE. Yes, I have. And I have pictures to prove it.

Dracula's Castle. A nice ominous looking day.

The courtyard doesn't look that scary. That's me, on the left.

Another courtyard picture. That's my friend Coreen, who lives in Romania. She doesn't look that scary either. Does she?
I have a particular fascination with Romania which I'll blog about in the future, but not because of vampire lore. In fact, I think I've read enough vampire books to satisfy me for a good long time. I'm worried that the love interest in the book I'm currently reading is going to turn out to be of the vampire variety. The signs are all there: the red drink, agelessness, good at absolutely everything, rich.
I really hope not. What about you? Are you done with vampires, or is it a genre you'll love forever? (Ah-ha-ha-ha-ha).
I do like vampires. I don't write them, but I enjoy stories about them. I think I always will.
ReplyDeleteI like a good vampire read, but at the moment, I'm pretty satiated.
ReplyDeleteDracula's castle is amazing! How much fun that you got to go.
I was never really into the "monster" genre, though I did like the Twilight series okay and I really enjoyed The Dark Divine, but eh... I don't read them unless they come highly recommended.
ReplyDeleteOh and I think it is so cool that you do humanitarian work in Romania. I had a vocal coach that flew over there once a year to help the orphanages. I hope I get out that way someday. I would love to help!
ReplyDeleteI like vampires, but don't read much right now. I have to balance a lot of things with writing and reading, so I'm behind on the newest books.
ReplyDeleteWell, if a vampire book is getting a lot of buzz I will read it, but I don't seek them out.
ReplyDeleteLast year I read Wildwood Dancing by Juliet Marillier (sp?) which is set in Romania and which I really liked. (It does have vampires, but only among a bunch of other creatures.) I'd love to go to Romania. Maybe someday...
ReplyDeleteAwesome pictures. My WIP is full of Slavic folklore so I've been studying a lot of these countries - love their fairytale settings. I was also going to mention Wildwood Dancing to you - it is a really good book and the Vampires are only hinted at.
ReplyDeleteSo cool! What kind of work do you do over there?
ReplyDeleteSB
not too serious i hope
Great photos! Thanks for sharing. I'm pretty much over vampires. Although come to think of it, I just picked up Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's latest. Maybe I'm only over YA vampires.
ReplyDeleteI have an award for you on my blog.
