Writing is a Decathlon

Writing is a Decathlon, or so Kristen Lamb says. And as much as my stress  level peaks when I read her reasons why (as apposed to, say, a marathon, which is hard enough), I have to admit that she's got a point.

Don't know what I'm talking about? Well, I'm going to keep it short, because Kristen says it all already and so much better than I can. If you've never heard of her before, she's become the Writing Guru of Social Media and has two best selling books on the subject plus a great blog to prove it.

So go check out her blog and her new book, WE ARE NOT ALONE, and if you comment you get a chance to win some of Kristen's valuable time!

  2. I loved that post. And it is true. Learning to write well is just the beginning!

  3. That was a great post, but then Kristen always has great posts :) I do love her decathlon metaphor though. It's really true. You think writers just need to know the writing basics, but that's just part of it.

  4. writing contest.....My blog Amish Stories is having its first ever contest this week. The First prize winner will win 2 tickets to tour the farm where the 1985 move "Witness" staring Harrison Ford and Kelly Mcgillis was made in Strasburg,Pa . This farm is now Amish owned, and the family has given permission for folks to tour their farm. This may be the last time anyone will be able to walk and see the same things that Harrison Ford and the other actors saw during the making of "Witness". The Witness tour should last about 2.5 hours. In addition to the Witness farm tour tickets, 1st prize winner will also receive 2 tickets for Jacobs choice. There will also be a 2nd place prize, which will be 2 tickets for the Amish Homestead. Please go to My blog www.AmishStorys.com for contest details, and more information on the prizes. Richard from the Amish settlement of Lebanon county.

  7. Elle, thanks for the recommendation! I'm trying to increase my walking pace... so a decathlon is a pretty lofty ideal, I'm thinking... But yes, I'm walking on over (at my new, increased pace). :) Merci beaucoup!!

  8. That is an AMAZING post. I could really relate to the mommy writer with kids causing endless distractions - but I loved how she says they are a blessing, helping us in our training. True! And they are my inspiration, too. Thank you for sharing this wonderful link.

  9. Interesting post. I compare a writer's multi-tasking to teaching. What goes on in the classroom is only one part of a teacher's workload.
