About Me

I write Young Adult and Middle Grade fiction. I'm a married mom of four, and live in the beautiful Okanagan Valley, famous for beaches and vineyards. I'm fond of Lindt's sea salt dark chocolate and hiking in good weather. My Young Adult rom/com time-travel CLOCKWISE and contemporary/otherworldly Middle Grade IT'S A LITTLE HAYWIRE are now available on Amazon.

Monday Musings - All the Plates in the Air

A lot of things happened this weekend.

1) I got my first big author blurbage for Clockwise, which I'm completely stoked about. This is it:

"I loved Clockwise! A great read, and I love your Casey/Cassandra. Congratulations."
- Wendy Orr, author of
Nim's Island

(Nim's Island!)

It was due to a serendipitous meeting on twitter plus the fact that Wendy is just a super nice, down to earth person.

2) CLOCKWISE IS FREE TODAY on Amazon, the last day of five days. I've spent most of that time in the top 100 of the kindle free store, which I'm quite happy about. There are a lot of advantages to free promotion, and I have to attribute #1 on this list in part to that.

3) You don't get a review like this everyday: Banning the bullsh*t.  Thanks to Saffi for that.

4) I'm busting my braincells working on ClockwiseR, the sequel to Clockwise.

 5) I've never been busier but I'm enjoying myself despite semi-regular panic attacks.  I've made my own schedule, so my busyness is entirely my fault.

The thing about indie pubbing is you GET to do everything yourself and the other thing about indie pubbing is you HAVE to do everything yourself.

Another thing I'm learning as an indie pubber is that things always take more time than you schedule for them. And that there are a lot of things. SR Johannes has an excellent post for writers considering indie publishing that will scare the pants off you.

How about you?  Are you good at pacing your writing tasks?

I seriously need to do a little more planning for my revision stage.

  3. I try to be but I'm pretty sure there will be setbacks along the way! Things that take longer than I thought.

  4. Whoa ... what is that mess all your floor? LoL. I love what happens to my life when I'm knee deep in edits/writing/revising/pretty much anything writing related.

  7. Amazing blurb! I do my best to juggle writing and editing and revising. I must say though that I've cut way back on promoting last year and it reflected in sales.

    1. Interesting note on your sales. Shows we can't let up on that if we want to keep selling, I guess.

  8. somewhat good. At the moment I'm trying to balance the revisions with the paying gigs. Not fun. I feel like you with the plates! :D

  13. I know why Clockwise is getting such good blurbs - it's because it's so good! I totally agree about things taking longer than I think they will. I'm doing a better job of building in that extra time, but I'm not all the way there yet. Now I'm clicking over to get my pants scared off.
